Question 4 & 5

Who would be the audience for your media product?

How did you attract/address your audience?

The audience for my media product consists of males and females aged from 14 to 24 who have a love of indie rock music and also all music that could possibly be associated with that musical genre. My audience will most likely consist of an equal amount of males and females but with perhaps slightly more females as they are the ones who stereotypically purchase magazines most and want to learn of the latest gossip most. These people will enjoy attending gigs and festivals and especially enjoy minor bands which are practically unheard of, whilst also enjoying bigger bands such as You Me At Six, Green Day, etc. My audience will almost constantly listen to music and shop online on small clothing line websites and Ebay whilst also shopping on the high street in Topshop, Topman and Urban Outfitters. Baggy t-shirts will be popular amongst both genders, as well as beanies, tattoos and piercings and trainers - such as Nike, Puma and Adidas. Females will most probably have a liking for gold, chunky jewellery as well as leggings, dark eye make-up and brightly coloured lipsticks.

I attracted/addressed my audience by using several different methods. Firstly, I used images of people which my target audience could relate to - people who are a similar age to them, who dress similarly and posed similarly. I did this so that my magazine would feel more personal to my audience, so that they'd feel like they fitted in with the people featured inside the pages. Secondly, I used informal, taboo language throughout the pages I developed. This included cuss words, an informal, chatty way of writing and also a cocky/sarcastic manner when writing the interview on the double-page spread, as this is how teenagers - my target market - are stereotypically like so they would therefore be able to relate to this and feel comfortable. Furthermore, the typography that I have used is simple and easy to read, therefore meaning it is slightly informal and thus perfect for my target audience. In my contents I included stars my target audience would be familiar with and would enjoy, and included subjects such as tour dates and festivals which my target audience would be interested in, and therefore potentially buy the magazine because these topics were included. I also included competitions where tickets to Leeds Fest - an extremely popular festival amongst my target market - which would therefore persuade viewers to buy my magazine so that they'd be in for a chance to win the competition.
